My '69 VW Beetle
Thairaver crew chartered "Fidgi" in Phuket for the Bay regatta 2009. A fun time for all, with beatifull scenery, but alas not enough wind.

Thairaver is getting ready for Top Of The Gulf 2009.

With a new set of sails, change in crew and more unexpected changes, we are all looking forward to a succesful, windy, TOTG 2009.

Please do visit us regularly as updates will follow.

Koh Samui regatta 2008 This site is dedicated to my two great hobbies, sailing and the volkswagen Beetle.

Let me introduce myself first. My name is Dick Sanders. I am a Dutch national, but have been living in the beautiful kingdom of Thailand since 1989.

My boat, a DiDi 26, is stored at
Ocean Marina Yacht Club, from where we have a monthly race weekend, a monthly cruise weekend and of course the yearly Top Of The Gulf regatta, which is held every first week of may.

We're also planning to participate in the
Koh Samui regatta this year, called the tropical island regatta for a very good reason.

Anybody interested in sailing on the Gulf of Thailand, log on to
Crew-Search. This is a forum of mainly OMYC based boat owners needing crew, or crew looking for a boat to join. It also has a calendar with all the races and cruises.

On this site you will also get to know the love of my life, my son Sean William, who is also the bosun on the boat and co-driver in the car.

The boat I build myself, in the garden of my house. Later on I will include a page with pictures of the building process.
It is a 26 ft sailboat, made out of wood. My boat has an extension of 1.5 ft on the transom, a so called sugar scoop. Also the interior is modified from what was the original design.
The design comes from
Dudley Dix, you can find a link to his website on this page for more about this and other designs and the construction method.

The car is a 1969 Volkswagen Beetle.
When I bought it is was green metallic of color and had the original interior.
The engine was a stock 1300 cc. By now the interior has changed and the engine upgraded to 1600 cc with a 34 solex carburetor. It has now a two tone color of cafe-latte and cream.
Most parts for the restoration-upgrade of my car where supplied by
Paruzzi, a dutch based company specialized in everything air-cooled

As I just started this site, it will continue to grow as we go on. Some pictures you can already click to get a larger version in a new window.

There is a guestbook as well, please sign it and leave any comments. In the future a blog will be attached to create an interactive forum on anything related to sailing and air-cooled VW's

I hope you enjoy the site as much as I did making it, and come back regularly to check for updates.
